Photography is (yet another) hobby of mine...
When I came first to Japan between 1990-91, there was no idea about digital cameras :) In those times, many photo books of famous photo artists were sold widely, of any genre. One of the most beautiful genres is landscapes :) The godfather of all Japanese landscape photo artists was Shinzo Maeda, from whom I even have one book he autographed :) He used extremely long exposure times (sereval minutes!), and made pictures that a human eye never could see ... Today, all these kind of photo books are hard to find. |

Kyoto Shoin Kyo Maiko 1987 ISBN 4763630571 |
Before a woman becomes a geisha, she is a "maiko", a "dancing girl".
Very rare now, but geishas and maikos are still there and the tradition is held up
in Kyoto. This book shows their education - and it has nothing to do with sex; at all :)
Forget about rubbish clichés! Geishas are not prostitutes; the sheer idea is an insult! Geishas perform traditional songs and theatre. They keep up a tradition that would be lost else. |

Before Tokyo, Kyoto was the capital city, and before her, it was Nara, very near to Kyoto.
Nara has saved a rich inheritance, that was not destroyed in WW2, luckily. The fire in the background is no blaze nor a vulcano, it is a festival, with giant torches beared down the hills. |

Kumamoto Nichinichi Shinbunsha Kumamoto Jo 1985 no ISBN |
The Kumamoto castle in Kyushu is not as beautiful as the famous Himeji, which is due to the fact that it had been destroyed in 1877 at the Satsuma rebellion, against the opening of Japan to foreigners. And then it was rebuilt - in concrete :/ Just the fassade is historized. |
